Founded in 1887 to meet the need for mechanizing gold extraction in Colombia, the School of Mines of Medellín was a pioneer in training managers in the country. Since 1912, with the creation of the Civil Engineering program —in parallel with technical subjects— other courses were introduced aimed at preparing graduates to manage the public and private companies that were just emerging. This video shows how this purpose, combined with education based on academic rigor, practical work, and integrity, allowed professors, students, and graduates of the School to make very important contributions to administration as a discipline and to the public and private companies they led.
